History of Military Ex-Prisoners of War FoundationThe experiences of prisoners of war are unique in the annals of combat veterans. You might say that POWs fought in two different wars. In the first war, they battled the enemy with weapons. In the second war, they fought to survive the unspeakable conditions of POW camps by using their wits. But those who were ultimately liberated and returned home, found that only their bodies had been set free. Their minds would be forever captive to the memory of untreated wounds, constant hunger, bitter cold or torrid heat, and the daily brutality of their guards. Now, after years of "toughing it out" on their own, POWs, most of whom are in their eighties, have unhealed psychic scars and medical problems, And their stories are being lost as fast as they are leaving us, at a rate approaching 1,000 per year! The American Ex-Prisoners of War Service Foundation was founded in 1997 and renamed the Military Ex-Prisoners of War Foundation on May 11, 2007. The Foundation is certified as a 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are tax-deductible. A written acknowledgment of your contribution will be automatically sent to you.
